Subham Dasgupta- PI

I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, Clemson University. I got my BS and MS from the University of Calcutta in India and my PhD in Marine Sciences from Stony Brook University in NY. Following this, I held two postdoctoral position at University of California, Riverside and Oregon State University in the field of developmental and molecular toxicology. I am looking to build a diverse, fun lab group focusing on understanding mechanisms of developmental toxicity.

Course taught:

BIOL 4930- Developmental Health and Toxicology Senior Seminar

BIOL 4400- Developmental Animal Biology

Sunil Sharma- Postdoc

Dr. Sunil Sharma is working as a post doctorate fellow in Dasgupta lab since April, 2023. He has completed his Bachelor degree in medical sciences from Jammu University, India. He received his Master and PhD Degree in Zoology from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, Punjab, India. He has qualified Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), National Eligibility Test – Junior Research Fellow (NET-JRF) Exam and obtained fellowship during PhD program. For doctoral degree, he worked on the toxicity of an antibacterial agent (Triclosan or TCS) to the hatchlings/larvae of an important indigenous food fish, Labeo rohita. He has published more than 15 research papers as first author and co-authors in journal of international reputes. Presently, he is working to evaluate the developmental toxicity of Flame retardants using zebrafish as a model. Dr. Sharma likes music and write poetry

Syed Rubaiyat Ferdous- PhD Student

Syed Rubaiyat Ferdous is a passionate researcher from Bangladesh who started his PhD in the fall of 23. His research project is centered on uncovering the molecular intricacies of how PFAS, a group of chemicals found in flame retardants influences the behavior of zebrafish during their early development. Ferdous holds a Bachelor's degree in Fisheries and a Master's degree in Fisheries Biology and Genetics, both conferred by Bangladesh Agricultural University. Beyond his academic pursuits, he is a passionate sports enthusiast, with a particular affinity for cricket, badminton, and soccer. Furthermore, his adventurous nature is evident in his love for travel and hiking, reflecting a well-rounded and exploratory approach to life.

Kanchaka Pathiraja- PhD Student

Kanchaka Sidath Senal Pathiraja joined as a Research Assistant in Dasgupta's lab since August, 2023 from Sri Lanka. He obtained his Bachelor's degree in Science (Honors) in Zoology with BioChemistry and Chemistry from University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. As the undergraduate research project, he investigated the Analysis of Bisphenol A (BPA) leaching from baby feeding bottles and the Physiological Impact of low-dose BPA exposure on Juvenile Zebrafish (Danio rerio). His PhD research project is more focused on early developmental toxicological effects of zebrafish embryos exposed to flame retardant chemical, Tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA).  Beyond his academic pursuits, he is more interested in sports, especially playing badminton and volleyball.

Alfredo Rojas- Incoming MS student

Alfredo Rojas is a Lab Scientist. He is a first-generation student who graduated with a BS in Biological Sciences in 2023. He spent much of his early life playing violin and furthered his craft by attending the South Caroline Governor’s School for the Arts and the Humanities. During his time as a performing violinist, he had the opportunity to give a series of concerts in Dresden, Leipzig, and Berlin Germany. After graduation, he would like to further his education by pursuing a master’s degree, with the ultimate goal of doing scientific research. He currently supports multiple projects within Dasgupta Lab and is joining the lab as an MS student in Fall 2024.
